About Mr. Johanson

Picture
Thomas Johanson is a composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, and probably the most humble guy to ever talk about himself in the third-person. In addition to writing and recording music, performing in various church ensembles, and working the occasional manual-labor job, Johanson has a variety of hobbies and interests. He enjoys drawing and painting, music history, cooking, long drives on open roads, and hoarding all manner of useless and pointless knowledge.

Favourite composers include Bach, Webern, Dylan, Coltrane, and Lutoslawski. Favourite authors include Gaiman, Moore, Schoenberg, Shakespeare, and Nemirovsky. He likes Jackson Pollock's art (as any good modernist composer should), but honestly prefers the work of the French Impressionists over pretty much anything else in the realm of visual arts.

Musically, Thomas Johanson holds no alliance to any particular school or genre. He is just as comfortable playing Nu Metal as he is singing old Lutheran hymns, he sees Ligeti's Atmospheres as an artistic triumph on par with Beethoven's 5th, and frequently vacillates between dodecaphony and d-minor ballads as a composer. With such a cosmopolitan approach to composition, it is almost certain that everyone will find something to love - and something to hate - among his works.
