Free Noise

Here you will find some short pieces of mine, free-to-listen.

Despot: Sound Collage featuring guitars, flute, accordion, recorder, MIDI sounds. Composed & recorded in summer 2011.
8 x 8: Music Concrete performed on an ancient copy of Fruity Loops. Composed & recorded in winter 2005/2006.
This was my first true venture into writing serial music, in which I made use of two eight-note rows. Other pre-compositional factors played a major role in the construction of the piece, including several allusions to the pieces on a chessboard. But really, it's more fun to just sit back and listen as the weird, half-formed melodic strands flicker, flash, and fade. (Note: comparitively high volume)
Waltz on a Theme by Richard Wagner: for solo piano, completed December 2011.
One day, when I heard a Strauss waltz on the radio, I had a funny thought: what if it was Johann Strauss, not Wagner, who had written Tristan und Isolde? I feel confident that what I have here would have been denounced by either or both composer as the work of a degenerate and a fraud.
Repose: for solo guitar. A 2004 improvisation transcribed in 2006. Performed by the composer at Weber Music Hall, Duluth MN, April 4, 2006. (Note: Low volume)
Sculpture 1: Walking Man: for army of guitars + synthesizer. April/May 2012.
In this work, the notes of the G overtone series are stacked atop one another, their harmonic relationships reinforced with corresponding rhythmic figures. (The G an octave above the fundamental is plucked twice as fast, the D above proceeds at a 3:2 ratio, etc.). The effect is one of building a slab of marble, out of which I then proceed to chip away the unwanted sounds to reveal the sculpture within.
