(Originally Posted Nov 2014) This Tuesday marks the release of a new collection of songs: The Rhetorical Demos. This is an eight-song EP featuring songs I have written over the past eight months. It will be available on bandcamp for the insanely reasonable price of $1.00. The songs on The Rhetorical Demos are jam-packed with questions, with only a few fleeting answers scattered throughout. They touch on the topics of death, love, nature, where we're going, and what happens to what's left behind. The informal format of these recordings - all limited to a voice and guitar, with no overdubs or corrections to any misplaced word or misplayed chord - was largely borne of necessity. During the process of writing and attempting to record these songs, I experienced multiple setbacks of a technological nature. In the interest of releasing something, I opted for a quick session followed by immediate upload - lest I destroy another computer before the songs saw the light of day. Recorded on November 15 and 16, The Rhetorical Demos feature no guest appearances, do not benefit from professional production, and represent only the midpoint in the evolution of these songs to their fully mature form. Further orchestration and recording will resume as time and resources become available. |
